The Tudors

Lara E Eakins' interest in the Tudors stems from her schooldays and this is the fruits of her labours. There are pages here on all the Tudor monarchs including Lady Jane Grey, and each of the six wives of Henry VIII with a number of portraits.

Amongst many interesting pages including one listing films set in Tudor days, there is a selection of maps including one showing the position of Henry's and Richard's armies in the Battle of Bosworth, and another of the planet Venus - did you know all but one of the features on Venus is named after women from Tudor times?

Tudor Britain

A new education website, in 2005, which is relevant for studying the Tudors. Built with the Victoria and Albert Museum, it allows Tudor history to be explored through a hands-on look at original documents and objects.

The Royal Website

Visit the Queen's own website. You will find a list with dates of all the English - and later British - monarchs since 802AD, and a section on the Tudors including the text of Elizabeth's Speech to her army at Tilbury on the eve of the Spanish Armada.

The National Portrait Gallery

Visit the 15th and 16th Century Galleries for portraits of important people who lived in the time of the Tudors.

Biographies of English Monarchs

An entry on each of the Tudor monarchs.

Life in the 16th Century

What was life like in 16th Century Europe? This site is supposedly run by the landlord of Le Poulet Gauche, an inn in Calais, along with his family and customers living some 400 years ago.

Medieval and Renaissance Home Cooking

One or two 16th century recipes and a selection of book titles where you can find more.

The Mary Rose

This is the official website of the Mary Rose Museum,Portsmouth. There is a Schools Page which includes a history quiz, the story of the last voyage of the Mary Rose told in pictures and pictures of artefacts found on the Mary Rose during excavation. There are photographs and isometric drawings to download. Look in on the Education site if you are planning a project on the Mary Rose or a visit to the museum.
