The Great Chain

Activity Sheet

long border

In Tudor Times, people believed everyone had their place in society. This was called The Great Chain.

They believed God was at the top and inanimate objects (things that have never lived like rocks and water) were at the bottom.

Label the links in this chain.

Draw your own chain. Give it more links and divide the commons into sub-groups. Do merchants go higher or lower than yeomen? Where would you put the craftsmen?
