Hands-on activities

These hands-on activities are designed to encourage children to find out about different aspects of Ancient Egypt.

Each Activity Sheet is designed to print out onto an A4 sheet of paper.

(N.B. - if your printout does not fit onto a single sheet of A4 paper try adjusting the font in your browser's preferences file or reduce the scale in your printer-driver software.)


1. Mapping

Print out the Ancient Egypt Map activity sheet.

Can you find out the names of the cities, rivers and seas and the important places marked on the map?

2. Word Search

Print out the Word Search activity sheet.

Can you find 20 words connected with ancient Egypt?
There are clues on the activity sheet.

3. Hieroglyphics

Print out the Hieroglyphics activity sheet.

Can you write your name in hieroglyphics?

Use the Links page to find a place on the World Wide Web where you can see your name in hieroglyphics.

4. Time Line

Print out the Time Line activity sheet.

Can you place the people and events in the right place on a time line?

Use the Links page to find other places on the World Wide Web which can tell you when the people lived and when the events happened.


5. Tutankhamun's Tomb

Print out the Tutankhamun's Tomb activity sheet.

Can you find out what the different parts of the tomb are called and identify some of the treasures which were found in each chamber?

6. Ancient Egyptian Society

Print out the Egyptian Society Pyramid activity sheet.

The Pharoh was the most important person in Ancient Egyptian society and slaves were the least important.

Fill in the spaces in the pyramid with drawings of characters from different levels in Egyptian society.

7. Famous Ancient Egyptians

Print out the picures of Famous People in Ancient Egypt.

Can you find out who they were and why they are famous?

Can you find out about one type of craftsman or craftswoman ?

9. Ancient Egyptian gods

Print out the Ancient Egyptian gods activity sheet.

Can you find out the name of the god who matches each description and draw a picture of him or her?

10. Farming in Ancient Egypt

Print out the Ancient Egyptian seasons activity sheet.

The Ancient Egyptains had three seasons of four months each. The level of the River Nile affected the seasons.

Can you find out what the seasons were and what Ancient Egyptian Farmers did during each season?
