Ideas and Resources to support a Primary Project about artists using the Internet. Hands on activities.These hands-on activities are designed to encourage children to find out about different aspects of the artists. Each Activity Sheet is designed to print out onto an A4 sheet of paper. (N.B. - if your printout does not fit onto a single sheet of A4 paper try adjusting the font in your browser's preferences file or reduce the scale in your printer-driver software. 1. Who am I? Print out the Who am I activity sheet. Can you identify the 9 artists from the descriptions? Use the Links page to find the information. 2. Word SearchPrint out the Word Search activity sheet. Can you find 16 words, some are artists' names and some are names of movements (styles of painting)? There are clues on the activity sheet. Use the Links page to find these names. 3. Famous Artists - picture quizPrint out the Famous Artists activity sheet. Can you find out who these artists were and what are their most famous paintings? Use the Links page to help you with this. 4. Famous Paintings - picture quizPrint out the Famous Paintings activity sheet. Can you find out in what these paintings are called and who painted them? Use the Links page to help you to identify these works of art. 5. A 'Famous Lives' databasePrint out the 'Famous Lives' database activity sheet. Use a computer database to record information about famous people. The example shows a 'record' from such a database showing facts about Michelangelo Buonarotti You could use the same 'fields' (name, where born etc.) or use your own headings for your database. Use the Links page to find other places on the World Wide Web which can tell you about famous people. 6. Story TellingThere is a story behind just about every picture you see. For example it could be a life story or a particular event in a person's life, a story about a historical event, a celebration, a myth or legend or the story of a journey. Can you paint or draw a picture which tells a story using one of the themes, or you could chose a theme of your own. Look at the Story Telling example sheet. Use the Links page look at pictures and the stories they tell 7. Art MovementsThroughout history there have been many movements or styles of painting all very different to each other. Some artists painted in one particular style throughout their working life whilst others moved through various styles. Print out the Art Movements activity sheet.
Can you identify the style of each painting and who painted it? Use the Links page to find out about the different movements and the different artists who worked in them 8. Computer ArtBy using a computer art program you can make lots of changes to an image. Look at the Computer Art activity sheet. Choose which image you would like to work on and save it. Using a computer art program, investigate what you can do with different effects and filters. There is an example for you to look at of different effects being used on the same picture which is called Rome from the Vatican If you have a favourite artist you may which to choose a different image which you could find by using the Links page.
